What are folks saying about my music?

“What a refreshing sound!” - Sing out!

“Brilliant concertina player” -
Vin Garbutt

"Fab" -
Heather Wood

"Supremely entertaining" -
Colin Dipper

“You went down very well and we took you to our hearts” - Clive Pownceby, Bothy Folk Club

“Amazing concertina player from America. Really swings. You’ve got to be a truly great Anglo concertina player to be able to get music like that out of the squeezebox. Great stuff” - Mike Harding

“Thank you for one of our best evenings entertainments. A fantastic evening at the Folk Club - Jody is a great communicator and musician. He held the audience in his hand for his whole performance." - John Cave, Seaford Folk Club

“Jody has a style all of his own and it's highly addictive. Not just a player but a great singer as well - old-time, rag time, music hall, a good time all around.” - John Bentham from Tigerfolk in Derbyshire

“Technical fireworks... exceptional skills... very exciting playing... he's able to make the anglo-concertina sound like a mouth organ... bending and blurring notes, so that his playing could never be mistaken for that of an English or even Irish player. ” - Rod Stradling, Musical Traditions

"Jody is an Anglo concertina virtuoso from the USA with a joyful, energetic & distinctive style; he's a master of American contra dance, old-time and music-hall. He's a fine singer. He writes stonkingly good tunes, too.” -
Lewes Saturday Folk Club

"Jody was excellent with a great presence, interesting and unusual songs and, for me as an anglo player, really inspiring box playing." - Colin Andrews in Devon's "What's Afoot"

"Jody’s songs were witty, gritty, true, humorous or full of pathos speaking of the human condition, interspersed with his charming introductions, which really drew such a keen interest. Throughout the evening Jody drew spontaneous participation from his listeners, he will definitely be booked again!" -
Eileen Ann Moore, Acorn Folk Club

"Jody's storytelling abilities through his music are captivating. His musicianship wonderful and playing unsurpassed". - Perry Werner

“It is very late Sunday night, and still I have your wonderful playing vividly in my mind. Believe me when I say that not in years have I enjoyed a live performance of any music--ANY MUSIC--as much as I did your presentation last Friday. You exude an ecstatic exuberance as you command/cajole/caress your concertina with energy found from the inmost part of your soul, your physical breath transmitted to the very reed itself. Your music had lilt, elegance, delight, grace, zest, and was so buoyant that its clarion call brought the audience to the art of Terpsichore.” - David Cannata

Solo Concerts

I sing vintage songs and play ancient tunes on the Anglo concertina. Though I’m from New York City, I love to perform across the pond. British folks really appreciate my take on folk music; what I like to call, New American Music Hall.

My concerts offer a warm and engaging solo presentation of traditional and popular songs from yesteryear. From witty and humorous ditties to songs that explore the depths of the human condition, my singing tells stories that are hilarious, gritty and true… stories of train wrecks and wrecked marriages, death row convicts and lonesome lovers, heroes, losers, swaggering braggarts, lazy slackers and slapstick fools. Join in on the chorus, please!

My love affair with the concertina goes back thirty years. I often play tunes at local New York contra dances with a number of bands. I’ve played extensively for morris and sword teams and also many Playford dances here in NYC.
